EUREKA Cleantech Action gears up for new R&D projects

Eureka Cleantech ActionEUREKA Clean-Tech Action (ECTA) held a conference on Funding Innovation in Renewables on 1 December 2010 at its Secretariat in Brussels. Cleantech is one of the leading themes of the Israeli Chairmanship and is also considered as a major objective by among European political entities. At the Brussels event, EUREKA’s aim is to spotlight cleantech technologies and promote its ECTA initiative. ECTA aims at generating new R&D projects in the priority field of Cleantech and encouraging European technology platforms. EUREKA also is promoting participation in the upcoming Eilat-Eilot Renewable Energy Conference that will provide partner-matching opportunities (22 to 24 February 2011).

The conference in Brussels is one of  the EUREKA Academy’s broad platform embracing several events that support the EUREKA Network’s quick adaptation to some of the latest trends in innovation. Sessions are devoted to current R&D business needs to reduce time to contract,approaching venture capitalists, understanding the problems of Intellectual Propriety rights,  addressing the big challenges of society,  and taking a multidisciplinary approach to innovation.

As part of the Brussels event, EUREKA is actively encouraging members to participate in the EUREKA NCP-HLG Meeting 2 (Feb 22‐24, 2011) being held in Eilat, Israel, which will have a clean‐tech focus. This EUREKA event is planned to coincide with the 4th annual Eilat‐Eilot Renewable Energy Conference and Exhibition , which all EUREKA stakeholders are invited to participate in. At this meeting place for technology providers, policy makers, regulators, investors and end users, the Israeli EUREKA Chairmanship, together with Eilat‐Eilot Conference organizers, will provide facilities for B2B partnering, project generation meetings and access to R&D funding schemes, as well as admittance to lectures, panel discussions and technical visits.

In addition to access to regular conference events, those guests participating in the EUREKA Clean-Tech Action will receive special “E! Company” status, which includes a 10-percent discount on the Eilat-Eilot conference registration fee and a host of other benefits.

EUREKA, a pan-European industrial R&D network, is partnering with the Eilat-Eilot International Renewable Energy Conference 2011. Comprised of 40 European governments, including the European Union, as well as commercial and research entities within the member countries, EUREKA promotes the principle of partnership aimed at advancing civilian industrial research and development. Its core concept is to promote marketable technologies for non-military application.

Israel is its only non-European member, joining in 2000. This year, Israel holds EUREKA’s rotating presidency, which was voted in three years ago. Israel Shamay is the Israeli Eureka Chairmanship Program’s National Project Coordinator and the Executive Director Cooperation Programs – Europe at Matimop – the Israeli Industry Center for R&D in the Industry, Trade and Labor Ministry, where he manages European research programs, of which EUREKA is the largest.

Government and company representatives from all 40 countries have been invited to showcase their wares and propose projects at the Eilat Conference and the boards of the EUREKA clusters will convene their meetings in Eilat, concurrently with the Renewable Energy Conference.

The Eilat event is one of several events that are taking place during the year for EUREKA members. This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the EUREKA program.

David Schwartz, president of iConsortium, a long-time partner in the annual Eilat-Eilot international Renewable Energy Conference, has taken active part in the Conference planing since it began in 2007. Schwartz expounded on the importance of this event and the significance of EUREKA’s participation.

“What a great combination!” Schwartz proclaimed, “The Brussels Symposium really conveyed how Eureka’s message was “partnershipping” as the lever to achieving energy and economic breakthroughs benefiting each nations’ industry and citizenry.  It was an honor being able to describe some of the “miracles” occurring in Israel today in the area of Renewable Energy.  Eureka on its 25th year anniversary in Israel could really be described as the ‘light in cooperation’. We look forward to seeing EUREKA participants in Eilat in February…for great business opportunities, new friends, and a great cultural experience in the Desert City by the Red Sea.”

EUREKA Clean‐Tech Action’s focus on cleantech includes assuring financial support and partner-matching services to R&D innovation activities leading to sustainable products and solutions in a variety of clean-tech related industries and fields.
