HP Indigo today inaugurated its rooftop solar energy system at the company’s factory in Kiryat Gat. The system on the 430-square meter roof cost NIS 1.3 million to install. It will come on line this month.

HP Indigo says that it expects to make a return on the investment in eight years.

The solar panel array will generate the maximum of 50 kilowatt/hours of electricity currently allowed by Israeli regulations for private power producers. HP Indigo will sell electricity to the national grid, as required by the regulations.

HP Indigo general manager Alon Bar-Shany said that the company would be happy to boost output of the solar panel array, in order to meet at least part of the factory’s power needs, when the regulations permit this.

Under the government incentives for solar power, HP Indigo will receive NIS 1.97 per kw/h for electricity sold to the national grid, four times the consumer price for electricity.
