Two major Toronto concerns are partnering with Eilat, Israel in pursuit of clean technology development. UJA Federation of Greater Toronto is a partner in the Eilat-Eilot International Renewable Energy Conference, one of the world’s most important renewable energy events, to take place in February 16-18 in Eilat. Committed to the advancement of the region on all levels, the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto has partnered with Eilat and Eilot for nearly two decades, supporting successful initiatives that have empowered the area and its residents.

The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) will be participating in the conference in order to develop relationships, as well as to seek potential partnerships with Israeli and International renewable energy companies.
The Toronto Stock Exchange – a subsidiary of the TMX Group Inc. – is the world’s largest market for clean tech companies. It is the world’s eighth largest stock exchange, and Canada’s largest stock exchange by market capitalization.
“Israel is a world leader when it comes to clean technology developments, however the companies behind these developments often have trouble marketing their technology and raising money – this is where we see our added value in any partnerships we establish,” said Raymond King, Senior Manager of Listings Business Development at the Toronto Stock Exchange. “The Eilat Eilot Conference will provide us with a wonderful opportunity to introduce ourselves to some of the country’s up and coming companies, and, as we will be attending the event with a senior level delegation of investment bankers and lawyers, there is a good chance that we will be able to start the IPO process for a number of Israeli firms.”
The UJA Federation of Toronto has a strategy for strengthening and transforming the region into a centre of opportunity that includes five components.
- Investing in Higher Education - including scholarships and stipends are offered to a diverse community of students and academics to ensure that every student is exposed to opportunities for higher education.
- Investing in the Educational System – including increasing access to formal and informal educational opportunities for Eilat’s most vulnerable students and for its most gifted youth, ensuring that educational support and enrichment services match those available in central Israel.
- Investing in Renewable Energy – Including empowering the leaders of Eilat and Eilot to harness the region’s vast natural assets – land and sun – in order to transform it into a global leader in renewable energy development and technology.
- Investing in Career Development Services – Including enticing highly skilled workers to Eilat by increasing job opportunities and providing vocational training services that retrain low-skilled Eilat residents for high-skilled employment opportunities.
- Investing in Healthcare – including creating a world-class emergency room at Josephtal Hospital in Eilat and offering special incentives to attract talented medical professionals to Eilat.
Eilat, Israel’s southernmost city, located at the tip of the Red Sea, and the region of Hevel Eilot (the strip of Kibbutzim surrounding the urban area of Eilat), cover 13% of the land in the State of Israel; but only 2% of the population of Israel lives in this region.
